A hut dinner, Sierra de las Nieves
About this pouch
Dinner in a hut in the Sierra de las Nieves is whatever came up in the rucksack, plus water from the stove. Rations No. 01 is the chicken and rice of Meal No. 01 in a bigger orange pouch, with peas, carrot, sweetcorn, olive oil and spices. It's cooked first, then freeze-dried whole, so it travels light and needs nothing but water, hot from the stove or cold from a bottle. With 45 g of protein, it carries more than any other pouch in the range. Each batch is packed only once its water activity measures 0.60 or lower, and the lot number on the base says which batch you've got.
Where it fits
Trail and sea
469 kcal and 45 g of protein for 120 g in the pack, at 391 kcal per 100 g dry. On the stove it costs 330 ml of water and 8 minutes; with no stove, the same water cold and about 20 minutes, depending on the water. The empty pouch zips flat for the walk out.
The cupboard
Sealed, it keeps 36 months at room temperature, so the same pouch can wait in a 72-hour box until it's needed. Rotate it into a weekday instead: Meal No. 01 is the same recipe at 110 g, 430 kcal and 41 g of protein.
